Kate Elsey applies her oil paint thickly in order to sculpt the medium to reveal the textural composite of a landscape. She scrapes away layers of colour to show glimpses of another. Her series of rock landscapes are inspired by the Lancefield area of Victoria, where boulders 135 million years old, are static, balanced and teetering in fields of green. The light that contrasts the surface and shadows is forever changing and acts as a quite and powerful reminder of ancient times.
